When I decided to start my own freelance recruitment business, there were 3 key mandates in my planning process:

  • #1. Make sure that the business involved the things in my career that I'm most passionate about (recruiting, people and results);
  • #2. Provide the absolute best in client service and results for my clients and candidates; and
  • #3. Share my success by donating to worthy local or national Canadian charitable organizations that would, in turn, help others.


From that moment on, the "Pay It Forward Recruitment" company name took its first breath and I knew I was on to something good - just like Henry Ford spoke about over 65 years ago. For me, the charitable aspect of Pay It Forward Recruitment is far more than just a philanthropic gesture. It's personal.

In July 2003, at the age of 36 and at an extremely busy time in my recruiting/marketing career, I was diagnosed with stage 1, invasive breast cancer. That day changed my life forever. During the next seven months that followed, I dealt with uncertainty, surgeries, radiation treatments and recovery. Fortunately, I was one of the lucky ones - the cancer was caught early and I can proudly say that I'm a survivor. Following that experience, I made the conscious decision to take all the perseverance, resilience, positivity and determination that helped me get through those tough times and make those traits a more permanent part of both my personal and professional lives. Doing something more than just work became even more important to me and I knew I wanted to help others who were affected by cancer or other diseases.


In addition to personal donations and participation in annual cancer fundraising events in my community over the years, I am very proud to add to those efforts at Pay It Forward Recruitment in the form of a donation out of my annual professional recruitment fees to selected local charitable organizations. Each year, three charities are selected to be the recipients of donations and it's an honour to be able to assist in this manner.
